What is Clinical Pilates / Exercise Rehabilitation?

Australian physiotherapists developed Clinical Pilates to combine the concepts of the original traditional pilates exercises with current physiotherapy knowledge based on research into spinal stability and directional preference. This method of Clinical Pilates is very different from the pilates available in gyms and pilates studios.

At PhysioLife, each client is thoroughly assessed to ascertain the areas requiring attention and we design an individual, targeted treatment program, utilising both the Clinical Pilates equipment as well as other physiotherapy advice, exercise rehabilitation and intervention as required.

These sessions focus on postural awareness and muscular control particularly of the “core” or trunk muscles rather than on physical strength. Core control and core stability are important to provide a stable base for all functional movement.

We can analyse the way that you move and address any components requiring attention.

Who Can Benefit?

Our Clinical Pilates / Exercise Rehabilitation sessions can be adapted for all levels of fitness, body types and ages. It can be commenced even if you have a current injury / pain as our program is individually tailored to your specific needs and reassessment of your needs is an ongoing process. Directional preference Clinical Pilates is a great compliment to any injury rehabilitation program or fitness routine.

Clinical Pilates/ Exercise Rehabilitation sessions can help to improve posture, general flexibility and efficiency of movement through enhanced body awareness and specific exercises that target muscles responsible for core stability and efficient body movement.

How does Clinical Pilates/ Exercise Rehabilitation work?

All our sessions are run by fully qualified physiotherapists with formal post graduate training and practical experience in Clinical Pilates as well as other forms of exercise rehabilitation. We also have staff experienced in adapting Clinical Pilates and exercise for those with women's health issues.

After a thorough assessment, we can tailor an exercise rehabilitation program to meet your individual treatment needs.

The program may consist of reformer and trapeze exercises as well as floor/mat/ ball and tubing exercises which can be done at home to compliment the equipment exercises.

We will closely supervise your technique to ensure optimal results and prevent provocative positions.

Most people require 2 - 3 individual sessions before joining a group or semi supervised session.
